An active, welcoming church in the heart of Thatcham
A place where everyone can find life and hope through Jesus — whatever your age, background or story.
Ordinary people, an extraordinary welcome
We're a Baptist church family in Thatcham, West Berkshire — you'll find us behind Burdwood Surgery, just a short walk from the station.
We're a real mix of ages and backgrounds, from young children to friends in their 90s. Our worship is modern and informal, there's no dress code, and there's no such thing as the "right" kind of person to walk through our doors. Whether you've been part of a church all your life or have never set foot in one, you're genuinely welcome here.
Above all, we long to be a place where everyone can find life and hope through Jesus.
Plan a visitA big God, close enough to know
The heart of the Christian faith is simple, and it's good news. We believe in one God — Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
God the Father
The Father knows and loves each of us personally. That love isn't distant or abstract — it reaches right into our everyday lives.
Jesus the Son
The Father's personal love is shown most clearly through Jesus, who lived, died and rose again — bringing us forgiveness, strength and hope.
The Holy Spirit
The Spirit is real and active today — comforting, guiding and empowering ordinary people to live changed lives and to love their neighbours well.
Our Statement of Faith
These are the core beliefs we hold to as a church.
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who is both true God and true man. We believe in His all-sufficient sacrifice for sin by His death on the cross, His bodily resurrection, His ascension into heaven and His coming again in glory.
We believe in the Holy Spirit who is one with the Father and the Son in the Godhead. We believe that He indwells every Christian believer and is the source of our spiritual life, obedience to God and Christ-like behaviour.
We believe that through sin, man is under God's judgement and is unable to redeem himself. We believe that a sinner is put right with God through faith in Christ alone, expressed in repentance from sin and commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ.
We believe that Christ is the supreme head of His body the Church, in which every believer is equipped by God for a specific function. We believe that the Church is called to glorify God in worship, preach the gospel throughout the world and build itself up in love.
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it is our supreme authority in all matters of faith and Christian living.
Four things at the centre of our life together
Everything we do grows out of these four commitments.
Worship
Meeting with God together — in song, prayer, the Bible and our everyday lives — with joy and honesty.
Relationship
Belonging to one another as a real family — sharing life, growing in friendship, and walking through the ups and downs together.
Serving
Loving our community with our sleeves rolled up — through the foodbank, refugee support and simple acts of practical care.
Sharing Good News
Gladly and gently telling others about Jesus, and making space — like Alpha — for anyone to explore faith for themselves.
Love God, love our community, equip one another to be active disciples of Jesus. Our shared calling
