Who Are We?

Get To Know Us

We are an active and welcoming Baptist Church in Thatcham, West Berkshire.

We’re just behind Burdwood Surgery, near the station.

Our fellowship includes the whole spread of ages from children and teenagers to those in their 90s.

What Type Of Church Are We?

We aim to be a place where everyone can find life and hope through Jesus.

Our worship style and dress code are informal, and anyone of any age or background is welcome to come.

What Do We Believe?

We believe in God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe the Father loves each one of us personally – and you too! We believe he showed this through Jesus who lived, died and rose again, bringing us forgiveness for the past, strength for the present, and hope for the future. And we believe his Spirit is real and active in the world, inviting us to partner with him.

Our Church was planted here in the 1980s with the local community very much in mind. From weddings and funerals to a confidential chat with our Pastor, if there is anything we can do to help you personally please get in touch.

What Do We Do?

Worship

Every Sunday at 10.30am we gather together and seek to bring glory to God in our worship.  All age-groups are represented and during term time there are groups for children and teenagers.

Our 6:30 evening service is smaller and more informal, and sometimes we join together with our Sunday evening youth groups for a joint service.  Both morning and evening services regularly include Communion.

Relationship

We love the fact that being a Christian means a relationship with the living God through Jesus.  A lot of what we do is designed to help one another develop this relationship.

In the Sunday services adults listen to a Bible-based talk or discuss the Bible together while younger ones learn in their own groups.  Almost every day of the week there are small groups meeting which help us apply the Bible to life in the 21st century.

Beyond this, we seek to support one another strongly through life’s ups and downs, remembering that Jesus taught his followers to love one another.

Serving

This church was put here with the aim of serving the community springing up in this part of Thatcham.  We continue this focus by offering our time, abilities and money to help people wherever we can.

This often means providing activities for the community.  We run groups for children, teenagers, parents and toddlers, men, older people, those with mental health needs, and more.  We also make our premises available to local charities including the Foodbank, and hire out the building to many other groups.

Sharing Good News

There wouldn’t be a church if it weren’t for Jesus, and we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for someone telling us about him.  So it is our joy and privilege to tell others about him too.

We regularly run courses which give newcomers the chance to explore what Christianity is really about in an informal setting.  We often use the Alpha Course for this which has proved popular throughout the world.

We also run events throughout the year designed to help people understand more about Jesus.  But above all we want the lives that we live every day to communicate how great He is!
